Encounters with Elephants on the Road in Botswana
On my cycling tour through Botswana, I experience breathtaking landscapes and unforgettable encounters with wildlife, including elephants on the roadside and thrilling boat rides in Chobe National Park. Despite technical challenges and rustic overnight stays in bush camps, I enjoy immersing myself in the untouched wilderness before heading to Namibia.
Visit to Victoria Falls National Park
The final stages of the bike tour through Malawi and Zambia were challenging yet fulfilling. Following intense days filled with impressive landscapes and friendly encounters, well-deserved rest days were spent in Livingstone by the Zambezi River, before continuing on to Botswana and eventually Cape Town.
Severe poverty in Malawi
In the past 8 days, we cycled through Malawi. Upon crossing the border from Tanzania into Malawi, we immediately became aware of how impoverished this country is... Significantly less traffic, far more pedestrians, and cyclists!
We leave Kenya and traverse Tanzania
It's been a while since I last checked in, but the days have been long, with no access to Wi-Fi, and my eSIM only covers WhatsApp. We've almost reached the border with Malawi by now, which means we've left Kenya behind and crossed through Tanzania in the past few days.

I haven't been in touch for a while, mainly because the days have been quite exhausting, with little or no WiFi in the evenings and unreliable internet access overall.

After two rest days in Entebbe, I am fully rested and feeling much better health-wise.

The last few days have been very exciting
In Kibuye, we visit a coffee cooperative and learn everything from the seedling to the coffee cup.
On Thursday evening we flew via Cairo to Kigali
On Thursday evening, we flew via Cairo to Kigali. The other half of the group flew via Cairo/Addis Ababa.
We cycled from Luxor to Edfu on Saturday
On Saturday, we cycled from Luxor to Edfu. We were unable to leave the city without police escort, so we cycled in a convoy for the first 20 km out of the city.
In Luxor, we have our second day off
We cycled over two stages from Safaga to Luxor. The first day, from Safaga to our first desert camp, was a bit challenging.

We are camping right by the sea, very windy but beautiful. We have made quite a bit of progress by now.
Finally the first day of cycling
The last two days, the bikes were assembled. Unfortunately, a few bikes only arrived yesterday evening, and people have been waiting for three days
The journey begins
After hectic preparations and a visa issue during check-in, where Lufthansa couldn't proceed without a return ticket, the traveler is now at the airport, looking forward to their bicycle journey to Cape Town. Despite mixed emotions and uncertainties about the upcoming 9425 km tour, they are hopeful and excited.
